USA NAFTA Work Visas
Under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) some Canadian and Mexican citizens may obtain USA NAFTA Work Visas to work in USA.
There are several categories under the USA NAFTA Work Visas to come to the USA:
- Professionals (TN)
- Intra-Company Transferees (L-1)
- Traders (E-1)
- Investors (E-2)
- Business Visitors (B-1)
Professionals (TN)
Under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Canadian and Mexican citizens who are qualified Professionals may be able to enter the United States of America (TN Visa) to exercise their professional activities in the USA for an employer located in the USA. The main advantage of this type of NAFTA Visa (TN) category is that it does not require prior job-validation for a position to be filled by Canadian and Mexican NAFTA Professional in the USA.

Teachers NAFTA Professionals (TN)
- College
- Seminary

Intra-Company Transferees (L-1)
Intra-Company Transferees (L-1) are prescribed types of business persons who Canadian or Mexican citizens, and who are being transferred to a related business or organisation (parent branch, subsidiary or affiliated branch) located in the USA.
There are several types of Intra-Company Transferees (L-1),such as:
- Managers
- Executives
- Specialized Knowledge Staff
Traders (E-1)
Canadian or Mexican citizens traders may be eligible to immigrate to USA with the E-1 Visa to conduct substantial trade in goods or services, provided that such trade is primarily between the NAFTA member countries, and provided that traders have either Canadian or Mexican business.
This category is also applicable to business persons who have the intention to establish, develop, administer or provide consulting services or technical services for management of investment that attracted foreign capital or is in the process of attracting it.
Employees of Traders may also qualify under the traders category, provided that they have supervisory or executive duties, or have skills that are fundamental to the operation of the business in the USA.
Investors (E-2)
Canadian or Mexican citizens investors may be eligible to immigrate to USA with the E-2 Visa to develop and direct a bona-fide business in which they have made significant investment of capital, and thus own at least 50 % of such business, or maintain a controlling interest in such business, and provided that investors have either Canadian or Mexican business.
The Investors category is also applicable to businesspersons who have the intention to establish, develop, administer or provide consulting services or technical services for management of investment that attracted foreign capital or is in the process of attracting it.
Employees of Investors may also qualify under this category, provided that they have supervisory or executive duties, or have skills that are fundamental to the operation of the business in the USA.
Business Visitors (B-1)
Canadian or Mexican citizen may be able to temporarily enter the United States of America as NAFTA Business Visitors with the B-1 Visa to do the following work:
- Research and Design
- Growth, Manufacture and Production
- Marketing
- Sales
- Distribution
- General Service
- After-Sales Service
